The Dan Meagher trained Lim’s Lightning confirmed his position at the top of the tree when making light work of his rivals in Saturday’s Group 1 Raffles Cup.

An impressive winner fresh over 1400m, Lim's Lightning has now won five of his six starts since arriving back in Singapore.

The 2018 Golden Horseshoe winner, Lim's Lightning won four of his first six starts before placing in the Singapore Guineas at three.

Sent to Australia shortly after Lim's Lightning had eight starts in Australia for one win, returning a Timeform rating of 96 at Werribee.

Lim's Lightning had his last start in Australia in June 2020 before returning to Singapore.

Now under the care of Dan Meagher Lim's Lightning has quickly found himself back at the top and had no concern with the step up to the mile on Saturday.

Kept fresh (27 days) Lim's Lightning was given a soft trial in-between and continued his great record second up.

Ridden by Danny Beasley, Lim's Lightning began well and took up the running with the Steven Burridge trained Mr Malek landing outside the lead.

Allowed to cruise in front, Lim's Lightning held a length margin coming into the straight.

Under a good hold Beasley clicked him up inside the 300m and Lim's Lightning quickly responded, racing away to post an easy win.

Eased down late Lim's Lightning saluted by close to four lengths with the Michael Clements' trained Top Knight and Big Hearted finishing second and third.

Rated 112 by Timeform it is the highest rated performance in the race since Debt Collector [Debt Agent] in 2016.

Prior to that Stepitup ran 115 while War Affair ran 123 in 2014.

Having now beaten the best at both 1200m and the mile it is no question that's Lim's Lightning is the best horse in Singapore.

It's a real shame we didn't get to see Lim's Lightning and The Inferno clash as he certainly would have given The Inferno something to chase.

My money would still have been on The Inferno but as it stands there doesn't appear to be a galloper in Singapore who can go with Lim's Lightning, so it will be very interesting to see where Meagher heads with him in the future.
