Trombone Alley continued his excellent form after being retired last season when taking out the Listed Goldmarket Handicap.

Trombone Alley maintained his consistent record this preparation scoring his fourth win in six starts, stepping up to Listed class.

Under the guidance of Jason Taylor, Trombone Alley soon crossed to the lead and then travelled strongly, setting a solid pace.

He had a clear break nearing the home turn, still led by two lengths at the 200m and fought back well to win by half a length in good time.

Gundy Son was well back in eighth place and was still giving the leader about eight lengths at the 400m.

He got a split passing the 200m and kept making ground for a late-closing second.

Morning Captain had a good run, third on the rails most of the way to the turn. He got to second at the 200m and kept battling on for a sound third (with 59kg).

The Gai Waterhouse-trained King Cobia ($3.25 favourite) chased the leader and subsequent winner Trombone Alley most of the way but tired from the 200m to finish a disappointing tenth, beaten three lengths.
