Excellantes wins 2015 Coca Cola Amatil Hinkler Hcp Listed $100,000 at Doomben (QLD), 1200m.
Top weight Excellantes was smartly away from his good barrier (3) and settled nicely outside the leader. He moved up well nearing the home turn, went to the front at the 200m and fought back to win well.
Favourite Kaepernick did not show much early pace and raced in second last place in the 12-horse field. He angled for a run rounding the home turn, got through to fifth at the 200m and continued to make ground for a late-closing second.
Into The Red was a handy fourth, but trapped three deep without cover. He made a good run (deep) rounding the home turn, challenged at the 200m and then fought on well for third after a wide trip.
Thump was fifth between runners, was under riding from the home turn and kept battling on in the straight for fourth, beaten just under a length.
Whiskey Allround led the field to the home turn before finishing (1.7 lengths) fifth.
