2016 Suez Queensland Day Stakes Listed May 28 - Doomben

3 minute read

Kamacite wins 2016 Suez Queensland Day Stakes Listed $100,000 at Doomben (QLD) 3yo, 1200m.

Kamacite stepped up quickly in class after winning his first two starts this preparation at the Sunshine Coast to win this stakes race, narrowly but in promising fashion. He was again smartly from his inside barrier (1) away, went to the front and then travelled well at a steady tempo (first 600m 35.90) before sprinting clear on straightening. He then held on, although tiring in the closing stages, to score a narrow but good win.

The favourite Mogador was slowly to move, was last in the early stages before settling well back on the rails. He got along the rails on turning for home, went to a distant second at the 200m and then made ground quickly in the closing stages to just miss in a photo for an unlucky second, also being disadvantaged by the sprint home conditions of the race.

Barood raced in sixth place, one off the rails, put in a run on turning for home and kept making ground to take the minor placing.
