2017 Carlton Mid Tattersall's Cup Group 3 June 24 - Doomben

3 minute read

Rudy wins 2017 Carlton Mid Tattersall's Cup Group 3 $200,000 at Doomben (QLD), 2200m.

After racing consistently in seven starts this preparation, the Helen Page-trained Rudy broke through for his first win here since taking out the Members’ Handicap (Listed, 1600m) at this track in May last year. He settled nicely in fourth place (one out and one back) behind a steady tempo. He moved up at the home turn but took a while to wind up in the sprint home and then rallied to hit the front at the 50m before scoring a good win under his top weight (59.5kg).

More Energy raced in sixth place, one off the rails, went widest at the home turn, challenged at the 100m and battled well for a sound second with his limit weight (54kg).

War Baby raced outside the leader (Pemberley), got to the front at the 200m and held on well for a close up third while Pemberley, who led the field most of the way until the home turn, disappointed in the straight to finish (4.3 lengths) last in the seven-horse field.
