2017 Sky Racing Tattersall's Tiara Group 1 June 24 - Doomben

3 minute read

Tycoon Tara wins 2017 Sky Racing Tattersall's Tiara Group 1 $500,000 at Doomben (QLD) Fillies & Mares, 1350m.

After four unplaced runs this preparation, five-time Group winner Tycoon Tara returned to form to record her first Group One victory here. She began well from her good barrier (3) and then travelled along nicely, setting a reasonable tempo. She grabbed a break rounding the home turn and although tiring nearing the post, last to win well.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare Prompt Response raced in eighth place, between runners in a packed field. Tommy Berry angled her for a run on straightening, getting a split at the 200m and she then came with a solid finish, just failing to overhaul the winner by a long head for second, looking a little unlucky.

The favourite In Her Time was slowly away from her wide barrier (12) and was second last in the 16-horse field in the early stages before making a wide move from the 700m. She was then widest of all at the home turn, went to fourth at the 200m and then kept running on gamely for third, staging an excellent effort after a really difficult trip.

Sold For Song was back in tenth place, on the rails, got along the inner at the home turn and battled on nicely on the rails for (1.8 lengths) fourth while French Emotion did well in running on (wide out) after being 12th at the home turn for (3.3 lengths) fifth.
