2017 Tabtouch-Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Listed December 9 - Ascot

3 minute read

War Room wins 2017 Tabtouch-Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA), 1400m.

The progressive Darren McAuliffe-trained War Room is now unbeaten in three starts following recent wins at Northam and Bunbury in advancing to take out this Listed race in good fashion. He was smartly away and soon crossed to the front.

He then steadied the pace (first 800m 50.19) was briefly headed on straightening but came again, fighting very back gamely in the sprint home to win narrowly but quite impressively.

The Godolphin-raced colt Gaulois began well, was eased to settle in second place before moving up outside of the leader (War Room) at the 700m. He put the pressure on that runner rounding the home turn, took a narrow lead at the 300m and after quite a battle, he fought on well to take second in a most respectable performance.

Reykjavik travelled well in fifth place, one off the rails, moved up nearing the home turn and kept running on well in the sprint home to take the minor pacing in a very sound effort.
