Flippant began quickly and led early, was headed to be second then took over again as they passed the 1000m. She had a neck advantage down the side and into the straight where jockey Damian Lane tried to steal it, increasing the margin to a length.

At the 300m she had two lengths on them which was down to a length at the 100m but Lane kept her going under a vigorous hands and heels ride to hold on by a long neck for her sixth win (fourth stakes) and earnings of $655,360.

Oregon’s Day ran up to fifth entering the straight, made her run five wide to be second at the 200m and kept gaining on the winner but the line arrived first, for a sound second.

A terrific run from Soho Ruby who was last at the 400m then ran strongly, especially dashing at them late to grab a good third from Harlow Gold who lunged into fourth when the race was over.
