Last start winner of the Waverley Cup (2200m), Glory Days  finished too well, taking her record to eight wins in 20 starts, the last four in succession. Rider Lisa Allpress was in no hurry early and settled the mare third last with a circuit to run. She remained there down the back straight and Allpress waited until the 900m to begin her run, gradually closing in on the pack at the 600m and was widest yet eighth when they straightened. Travelling smoothly, she caught the leaders at the 150m and then raced clear to win her maiden black type race nicely by a length and a quarter. Hunta Pence had a lovely run in third (rails) to the last corner, moved out and took over at the 200m but had no answer to the winner over the last 100m. Sampson sat second to the last corner, coled briefly at the 250m then battled away for third. Porcelain Princess was doing her best work at the finish to edge into fourth late.

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

This Listed 2040m Open Handicap saw an in form 6yo mare in Glory Days win her fourth race in a row and it was her first Blacktype attempt too. The track at Wanganui was released as a Dead6 and the winners and where they turned for home in Race order were second (neck back), fourth (two lengths from lead), second (half a length back), second (neck back), fourth (two lengths from lead), led, seventh (wide and three lengths from lead) and sixth (centre track and two and a half lengths from lead). The times were about two seconds inferior from standard most of the day. Glory Days settled down tenth on her own then swept up across the top to be seventh and the deepest runner turning for home before surging into fourth at the 200m then leading the final 100m. She won by over a length and a quarter in 2:07.79 and carried 55kg for her eighth win from twenty starts. Since stepped up to middle distance she is unbeaten in three outings from 1800m to 2200m and the late maturer is versatile too in she has won on dry and wet footing. Hunta Pence after trailing third the inner worked off across the top and then led the 250m looking the winner before being overpowered the closing 100m Sampson, a 9yo that had not paid a dividend since March, sat second the outer and fought on well to hold third comfortably albeit over three lengths from the winner. Porcelain Princess raced sixth the outer then moved up wide across the top into fourth and then when fifth at the 200m kept boxing on and regained fourth the final 5m. China Star was fourth a lap out then strode up and took the lead down the backstraight and once headed at the 250m wilted. She's Poppy under 59kg settled eighth then moved into sixth wide across the top but could not ping like her usual self under the impost. Ringo was only a fair seventh while Beefeater again flopped over ground though he did carry 69kg. Rock On was an eyecatcher late as he was very slow out and a clear last and seemingly unable to get warm then got some heat into his legs the closing stages. He is a proven stayer and will a threat when next seen out. Highlad could not ping on footing likely not wet enough but also he is a very inconsistent type prone to running shockers. Raw Impulse never ever looked a hope after settling down second last on his own while Heavens Keep was outstayed and outclassed (he has tried G2, G3 and Listed grade ten times now for no top three finish). This was not a very strong stamina field at all and contained a lot of old gallopers and suspect stayers plus track bias ensured those that could not ping the run home or at least get into contention prior were a million to one. Every Blacktype race held today in New Zealand were unsurprisingly won by female gallopers with a 3yo filly and a 5yo mare scoring at Ellerslie and this 6yo mare at Wanganui.
