The Velvet King wins Tabtouch-Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA), 1400m.

The favourite The Velvet King staged a game effort in winning here, his second stakes victory and fourth win in six starts. He was smartly away and settled nicely in the lead before slowing the tempo.

He was challenged strongly halfway down the straight but fought back determinedly to win well. Festival Miss raced in fourth place, one out and one back, loomed dangerously at the 200m and then fought strongly for a very good second.

Regal Power raced in last place, on the rails, got along the inner on straightening and finished nicely to take third just in front of the Chris Wallertrained colt Orcein who had been fifth on the rails before easing into clear running at the 200m and then battling on quite well for fourth.
