There were a number of key performances over the weekend in Singapore, headed by the Michael Clements trained Gingerella.
David'S Star Formerly trained in West Australia under the care of Simon Barrass, Gingerella displayed good ability, placing in four of her five starts.
Her maiden win at Bunbury was very impressive and while unable to win at her next two starts, both performances held merit.
She left Australia rated 80 by Timeform, a figure would see her very competitive in Singapore.
Off the scene for 172 days, Gingerella was given just the sole trial in the lead up, coasting to the line to score by 4.5L.
Ridden by Vlad Duric, Gingerella looked to do it easily and suggested she had acclimatised well to her new surroundings.
By former Singapore superstar Gingerbread Man , Gingerella notably gave owner Joe Singh his first victory in Australia.
Having already had a lot of success with both Gingerbread Man and Countofmontecristo , Gingerella will now finish her career in Singapore.
While already a winner over 1200m, that did appear her biggest hurdle on Sunday, however she passed it with flying colours.
In an open affair, Gingerella was sent out the $4.30 favourite and always appeared in firm control when pressed forward to lead under Duric.
Although she had a bit of company early (Fame Star and David'S Star ), Gingerella always appeared to travel the better of the on-speed runners.
Showing a good turn of foot, Gingerella quickly drew clear of her rivals and while tiring a bit late, she held on to score by half a length.
The John O’Hara trained Fame Star came at her late, however he was no match and she toughed it out well.
Rated 67 by Timeform, Gingerella has a fair bit up the sleeve on prior best form and is certainly one to follow.
Quite versatile, Duric gave her a fair wrap following her victory.
“I was quite bullish as she is quite a brilliant filly. The 1200m was a bit testing first-up, but she did a good job,” Duric said.
“I think leading is not the only quality to her repertoire. She can relax and sit off another horse.
“The plan was to make good use of her good draw. I gave her a rev-up in the first 100m just to control that spot.
“She came back nicely for me. She got a bit tired as it’s a 1200m race, but she toughed it out well.”
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Clements drop her back in trip at her next outing, either way she is one to follow.
