New Zealand Group 1-winning filly Avantage staged an impressive effort in scoring here at her Australian debut. Having her first run for six months, she soon went to the front, fought back gamely when challenged hotly in the straight, showing her class over the latter stages to win well, her seventh win from eight starts. The favourite Resin was sixth early from her outside barrier (11) before settling in third place, but caught three deep. She challenged strongly at the 300m and then battled gamely for a good second, her barrier proving costly. Star Reflection raced in eighth place, improved (wide) on turning for home and kept running on well for third. Sweet Scandal raced outside the leader and eventual winner, challenged on straightening before fighting on quite well for (2.8 lengths) fourth.
