After finishing a creditable ninth in the Classic Mile at Flemington Balf’s Choice returned to Morphettville in a blaze of glory when he won the 1600 metre opening race on Saturday.

Being under the care of Ryan Balfour and having the services of Simon Price Balf’s Choice began well and maintained a forward position.
Trainer Tony McEvoy brought up a two state double, celebrating his birthday in fine style, when Lake District Girl won the 1050 metre second race.
Having the services of Berand Vorster Lake District Girl came from a midfield position with a strong run over the concluding stages.
Horseman Ryan Balfour brought up an early double when Lostarc won the 2027 metre third race.
Guided to victory by apprentice Chelsea McFarlane Lostarc was in a handy position throughout the event.
Tongsai Boss landed successive wins when he took out the 1600 metre fourth race.
Prepared by John Hyam and having the services of Jake Toeroek, Tongsai Boss came from a midfield position with a late run to win.
Apprentice Caitlin Jones landed her first city winner since resuming race riding last month. She guided Extreme Thrill to a win in the 1200 metre fifth race.
Being under the care of Wayne Francis and Glen Kent Extreme thrill, their third winner for the week, came from last on the home turn to bring up win number three from thirteen starts, 345 days since his last win.
Todd Pannell continued his quest to win the jockeys title when he rode Cosmic Alert to a win in the listed Laelia Stakes which was run over 1600 metres.
Trained by Will Clarken, Cosmic Alert travelled one out/one back before getting to the lead in the straight.

Will Clarken landed his second winner for the day when his charge Everday Lady took out the listed Manihi Classic which was run over 1100 metres.
Guided to victory by Melbourne hoop Beau Mertens Everyday Lady came from a rearward position and powered home late in the event.
Apprentice Caitlin Jones made up for lost time when she landed the second leg of a double guiding Alaskan Jade to victory in the 1050 metre final event.
Prepared at Gawler by Darren Magro, Alaskan Jade came from the rear of the field to bring up win number seven form fifteen starts.
