Kings Will Dream, who was having his third run back after being injured in the 2018 Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m), returned to his best for new trainer Chris Waller in taking out this Group 1 feature.

He settled in seventh place on the rails from his good barrier (3), improved nicely between runners rounding the home turn, got a split to challenge at the 300m. He hit the front at the 150m and then dug deep to score a very good win.

Finche began well and had a good trip in fourth place. He improved nicely at the home turn, challenged coming to the 200m and kept fighting strongly for second, beaten a short head.

Hartnell tracked the leader (Trap For Fools), moved up coming to the home turn, went to the front at the 300m and then fought well for third. Vow And Declare was ninth at the home turn, improved behind runners at the home turn and then kept running on nicely for (1.7 lengths) fourth.

Mystic Journey raced back in second last place in the 11-horse field, eased into clear running at the 200m and then kept running on to finish (1.9 lengths) fifth. The favourite Mr Quickie raced in last place, improved out wide on turning for home but just battled from that point for (4.8 lengths) tenth.
