From well back yet driving through at the 200m Secret Allure was too good here, taking command at the 50m then held on quite comfortably for a big win, her career fifth, four of which are Group 3 or Listed races.

She was slow away to settle second last early (rails), remaining there past the 800m as well as inside the 600m.

She moved off the fence nearing the last corner but had plenty of traffic in front of her and the situation looked bleak at the 250m yet she drove through, caught the leader inside the 50m then strode clear by a comfortable length.

Livin' On A Prayer sat fourth (one out) from the 800m, improved to third turning in and went after the leader.

She challenged but kept drifting further from the rail, lost momentum then straightened and finished well for second.

Lady Kartel was second past the 600m, took over into the straight and slipped clear. She was caught at the 150m but kept going well for third from Darscape Princess who from last turned in widest and ran home strongly for fourth.

This G3 fillies and mares 1400m saw Secret Allure surge through from the back up a middle path to win impressively. The track presented was officially announced as Dead5 but the times were a tad slow and a second to two seconds off across the board all day. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fourth (seven-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), co-leader (one-off the inside), fourth (two-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), second (four-off the inside and a neck from the leader), second (nine-off the inside and half a length from the leader), second (four-off the inside and a neck from the leader), thirteenth ( six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (six-off the inside and half a length from the leader) and sixth (nine-off the inside and two lengths from the leader). Secret Allure settled down in the rear trio and turned for home still eleventh looking for a pathway up the middle but she was just three lengths from the leaders in a field that had packed up relatively tight turning for home. The 4yo mare surged though once things opened up ahead and she reached second at the 100m and led at the 50m to score by a length in 1:25.16. It was her fifth win in nineteen starts and today was her fourth Blacktype win (two at G3 and two at Listed level) and she has gained them now as a 2yo filly, 3yo filly and now a 4yo mare. All her wins have come on rain-affected to wetter ground from Dead up to Heavy footing. Livin' On A Prayer raced fourth and tried hard the run home to finally reach second on the post. Today was her tenth try at Blacktype and she now has three placings (two of them in this G3 1400m race) and a Listed 1000m race. Lady Kartel showed speed from a wide gate when second up and led early before settling second the outer. The 5yo mare moved up to lead turning for home and only got headed with 50m to go then lost second on the post, It was her second ever attempt at Blacktype. Darscape Princess settled down second last and was last across the top and the 6yo mare was angled widest runner turning for home. She unleashed a big finish and reached fourth with just 10m to go. Queen Of Diamonds raced midfield the outer and improved closer turning for home then surged and reached third at the 200m. The fresh up 4yo mare tried hard and fought well to end up fifth beaten just over two lengths and she is a massive improver for when next seen out. Lupelani ran home rather well from second last turning for home and she was in fact last at the 200m. Nubian Smile for a one-win mare did well considering how badly off she was in here under the WFA scale plus the mare raced on the inside inferior lanes adding merit too her seventh beaten two and a half lengths. Jessiegee ran on well after being back and then held up while Heni fought on gamely from last turning for home and also had to come closer in the final 200m. Miss Contessa raced sixth and reached fourth briefly at the 200m before wilting late but she was inside three lengths from the winner at the line. Art Deco was disappointing overall after settling back as usual then being angled second widest runner turning for home. Her usual sustained surge was not there anymore as she finished eleventh beaten almost five lengths. Nicoletta, which won this last year, ran a shocker to finish twelfth beaten almost seven lengths She trailed third the inner and showed nothing the run home. Myrtle had a horror run third wide than fifth deep and to be only beaten just over seventh lengths was too her credit at $68. Miss Lizzie soon led and stopped badly on footing not wet enough to keep her competitive and this was her first Blacktype race attempt. Te Toro Pearl stopped badly after racing in the midfield and she needs slow or heavy ground to be any chance. Secret Allure still has more wins in store as long as this wet Spring continues and it is now seven weeks (over halfway) in and still the slow and heavy tracks continue across the New Zealand. There was merit in the Lady Kartel effort and Darscape Princess looks in for a good campaign after her fresh up eyecatcher. Queen Of Diamonds will just about win next time out and Jessiegee should be in the money at her next outing. Several mares in this probably on performance alone plus the age factor have made a date with a stallion very likely now.
