Sky Racing-W.A. Guineas, Group 2 : Ascot - 23rd November 2019

3 minute read

War Saint wins Sky Racing-W.A. Guineas, Group 2, $500,000 at Ascot, 1600m.

In a surprise result, the $31 chance War Saint held on to score in a keenly contested finish. He began well and soon went to the front and then steadied the pace (first 1000m 62.97).

He picked up the tempo from the 600m and then kept fighting back in the sprint home to score by a half-head. Kay Cee settled in eighth place, one off the rails.

She improved (deep) rounding the home turn and kept running on really well in the sprint home to just miss in a photo.

Red Can Man raced in second place, moved up to challenge nearing the home turn and then kept fighting on nicely for a close-up third.

Special Choice was a handy fourth to the home turn and battled on quite well in the straight for fourth, beaten less than a length.

Superstorm ran on really well along the inner, coming from eighth at the home turn to finish (0.8 lengths) fifth.

The favourite Dig Deep made ground, out deep, after being ninth at the home turn for (1.6 lengths) sixth.
