Twice second in Group company his last two starts, The Mitigator was duly rewarded here with an all-the-way victory, his sixth and maiden stakes success. He took up the pace from the outset and was clear by a length and a half at the 1200m.

His lead reduced to less than a length from the 600m and turning for home the first two were clear. Into the straight he found more, raced clear by more than a length at the 200m and that was enough despite shortening stride near the line for the half length win.

Beauden was second, just back of the leader to the 600m, ranged up into the straight but was outsprinted from the 300m yet never gave up, eating into the lead the last 100m. The first two were clear of the rest.

Aim Smart was fourth (inner) into the straight, pulled wider and tried hard to the line while Pinmedown finished on late between runners from last in the straight.

Eagle Technology Stakes (G3)

Type: OPEN

This G3 mile under set weights and penalties saw an all the win by a natural leader in the Australian bred The Mitigator under 55kg. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were eighth (five-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), co-leader (three-off the inside), led (on the fence and six lengths in front), led, (on the fence and a head in front), sixth (four-off the inside and two lengths in front), co-leader (on the fence), eighth (five-off the inside and five lengths from the leader) and third (five-off the inside and a length from the leader). The Mitigator only knows one racing style and that is to lead and outkick his rivals, which he did today, after being tackled turning for home. The 5yo gelding never gives it away without a fight and he led outright again at the 300m and held out his rivals thereafter to win by half a length in 1:33.18, so ran them along from the outset. It was his sixth win from twenty-nine starts and his first Blacktype win with the promise of more to come owing too his racing pattern, as many tracks in New Zealand are manmade biased towards on pacers. Beauden sat second chasing and challenged the winning leader turning for home but could not go with it when it kicked at the 300m and he was a length behind at the 150m. The 5yo gelding was very much in form and fought hard to halve the deficit at the line and he was having his first Blacktype attempt. Aim Smart, more known as a sprinter, trailed the leaders and fought on for third in a gap after having every chance. Pinmedown was seen to be running on from sixth on settling while Go Nicholas raced fourth the outer and battled okay after having every possible chance. Gino Severini got trapped fifth wide working overtime and in a solidly run race and fought on bravely all things considered to finish sixth beaten five lengths. The rest just battled away and were not beaten by vast amounts but got back in a race where the leaders never stopped and ran time so mathematically they could never be in it. This field had some depth and would produce several individual race winners and some more than once afterwards too as well as several Group placings. Even better was the winner would score at G1 three starts later and the runner up would G1 place two starts later and win at Listed level three starts later to embellish the race result.
