Four starts, four wins for Riodini and not only his maiden stakes win but also the first stakes winner for his young sire Proisir (Choisir).

He got away well and found the desirable one out and one back spot inside the 1200m, holding there until the 800m where he inched closer to the leaders.

From the 600m he moved another width wider and turning in was ready to pounce.

Rider Samantha Collett waited then drove him forward to co-lead at the 250m, took command at the 150m and then they were not going to catch him, as he pulled away by a length and a half in a very sharp 1.21 for the 1400m.

Showoroses sat outside the pace from the 1000m, co-led at the top of the straight and kept on solidly to the post for second.

Familia was unlucky, sitting third (rails) from the 600m, turned in second but had nowhere to go, finally pulling four wide very late to grab third.

Hasstobegood challenged from the 300m but ran out of gas to lose third short of the line.

This G3 3yo at set weights over 1400m saw the shortest priced winner of the day in Riodini score comfortably at $1.60. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fifth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), second (four-off the inside and a neck from the leader), third (seven-off the inside and a length and a quarter from the leader), third (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (on the fence and three lengths in front), fourth (one-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), fifth (six-off the inside and two lengths from the leader) and led (one-off the inside and a length in front). The on pace manmade bias was prevalent the whole day as coming from further back than a couple of lengths was almost impossible with the field sizes not helping but the biggest reason as always was the Rail being out and today it was 6m. Riodini had not tasted defeat coming into today and made it four in a row after racing fourth the outer then came up third wide turning for home and surged into the lead with 250m to run. The gelding was clear at the 100m and coasted home to score by a length and a half in 1:21, which is not a believable time at all and all clockings at this meeting should be totally ignored. An electrical fault in the electronic timing system meant all races were hand-timed and would you believe some bionic numbers were put up that were pie in the sky stuff. The track record at Ellerslie for 1400m is 1:20.62 set in 19916 by My Quota, an eight-race winner, for some perspective. Showoroses raced second the outer and fought back well after being third at the 200m to regain the runner up spot at the 100m. Familia trained the leader and was held up at the 200m before being angled out into clear air and coming with a solid finish to get third with 10m to go. Hastobegood ran on solidly for fourth from seventh on settling after an awkward start Rhaegar was wide but soon led then got headed at the 250m and swamped the final stages to finish fifth beaten almost three and a half lengths. Amal Rose disappointed as equal second favourite while Thistle Do and Imaready ran as the two clear outsiders and filled the last two sports over the line as expected. Riodini has some upside for sure and would not miss the top three in his next and only two more outings with a G2 second then a G1 third. He has tactical speed but also has a swift push button speed surge response when ridden quietly and has won on good, dead and slow ground to show more versatility. This however was not a G3 level race and nothing out of the race including the winner has won since to put an asterisk of real doubt about it.
