Niccanova wins Tab Brisbane Hcp, Listed, $125,000 at Doomben, 1600m.

Improved by one run back, Niccanova scored in good style here, his eighth win in 21 starts and his third stakes victory.

He was ridden quietly and settled near the tail of the field, improved between runners nearing the home turn, switched deeper on straightening and then ran on strongly to score well.

Sir Plush had a nice trip in fifth place. He got into clear running on turning for home, hit the front at the 100m but could not then hold off the late-closing winner.

The favourite The Candy Man was a slowly away and was settled in seventh place on the rails, before being held up in traffic at the home turn.

He got a late split and then ran on for third, looking unlucky. Spectroscope raced in last place to the home turn and then came with a late run to take fourth.
