The classy three-year-old Alligator Blood made a successful return, resuming here after his very good second in the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in October. He settled in fifth place (rails), eased deeper and into clear running nearing the home turn, took the lead coming to the 100m and then went on to score easily, his sixth win from seven starts. Eleven Eleven raced third place on the rails, got through on the inner to challenge at the 300m and then battled on well for second, having no chance with the winner. The Odyssey went to the front, travelled well and held the lead until halfway down the straight before battling on to take third in a photo from Battle Strike, who ran on well from ninth at the home turn to finish fourth, beaten just under four lengths.
