Last start Summer Cup (Listed, 2000m) winner here on Boxing Day, top weight and favourite, Luvaluva was too strong in her sixth career win (fifth stakes) against a small field. She settled second last, improved a spot to third last at the 1200m then went up three wide and from the 800m was camped in third just a length back from the leader.

She held there rounding into the straight, cruised up under a hold from the 350m, took over and was never in any danger to the line, comfortably in the lead by a flattering three quarters of a length at the line.

Taikomochi had an easy time in the lead, led down the back and rounding into the home straight, was caught at the 300m then tried hard to the line, gamely holding second from Mr Garcia who was shuffled back to last at the 800m, equal last at the top of the straight and kept up a batting run to almost grab second on the line.
