Windsor showed great determination after being headed in the straight for his maiden stakes success, a hattrick and career win six.

He sped into the lead past the 1200m and went clear by three at the 800m. With 500m to run the lead shrunk to a length and well into the straight he tried to kick clear.

Headed at the 200m he refused to lie down, fought back and was doing better at the line by a long neck.

Monza Circuito chased the winner to the top of the straight, challenged and took over briefly at the 200m but when the winner fought back was unable to lift, fighting on to hold second.

Belle Fascino sat third to the 500m, ran up to get within a half length of the two leaders but had to settle for third while Enzo's Lad had too much to do in the straight, running on for fourth.

The winner at Listed level was Windsor that took the front after 400m and refused to give in the run home fighting on best the final 200m to score by a long neck and clocking a slick 1:21.23. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fifth (on the fence and two lengths from the leader), co-leader (four-off the inside), led (on the fence a head in front), fourteenth (seven-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), second (four-off the inside and half a length from the leader), third (three-off the inside and half a length from the leader), thirteenth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), led (on the fence and half a length in front) and tenth (one-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). The 5yo gelding completed a hattrick of wins this preparation and was winning his first attempt at a Blacktype race. It was his sixth win in twenty-three starts and his first to date at 1400m. Second home was an in form Monza Circuito that sat second the outer but could not quite run down his brave conqueror. He had been uber-consistent this season in eight runs having won twice and been placed four times and then the other two other times finishing fourth. Three times he has finished second at G3 or Listed level with one of those being a deadheat for the runner up spot as well as finishing a fourth at G3. His three times runner up saw defeats of half a head, a long neck and equal second when half a neck from the winner. The time he ran fourth at G3 he was less than a length and threequarters from the winner Ticket To Ride. Belle Fascino has raced well since sent to the South Island and ran a game third in this Listed event beaten just over two lengths after racing third the inner all the way. She had won two races this season and apart from the Listed placing today the mare would also place at G3 twice with one being a second beaten half a head at Riccarton and the other being a third at Wingatui beaten almost three lengths, Enzo's Lad was fourth beaten almost four lengths into fourth having run second when narrowly beaten at G1 prior. He Kin Fly was a fair fifth and would win at his next outing. Xcuses Xcuses ran on solidly for sixth beaten just under five lengths but would miss in his next four runs for the season. Seventh home was beaten just over five lengths and last home was beaten almost twenty-three lengths. This finish was determined a long way out as the speed of the race was solid enough whereby nothing could really run home too determinedly.
