Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - Inferno Is Top Dog

If there were any doubts that Inferno wasn't the best of his crop, they were quickly extinguished in the Group 2 Singapore Classic, he is a class above.

A handy winner first up for new rider Vlad Duric, Inferno faced off against the best Singapore had to offer and he beat them pointlessly [1400m].

One of four last start winners engaged, Inferno always travelled beautifully and clearly asserted his authority.

Jumping away with them, Duric found a lovely position midfield along the rail.

Enjoying the solid tempo set in front, Duric tracked Strong N Powerful into the straight and did a great job to get him off the fence and to the outside.

Travelling boldly, Inferno ambled up to them and put the race away in a two strides.

Eased down late, he coasted to the line to score by just under two lengths.

Strong N Powerful stuck on well to grab second, while Mr Malek held his ground to run third.

Rated 98 by Timeform when winning last year's Group 3 SAAS Fee Stakes [1200m], Inferno mirrored that performance on Sunday.

A rating of 98 has key historical significance, as it seems him rated higher than Top Knight (96+), Mister Yeoh (97) and Countofmontecristo (97) at the same point.

War Affair remains the highest rated winner of the event when rated 110+ in 2014, what an absolute beast he was!

In his first test  beyond 1200m, Inferno passed it with flying colours and will now press onto the Singapore Guineas [1600m].

"That was such an exciting win. He travelled beautifully throughout and that was a 10-out-of-10 ride from Vlad," Trainer Cliff Brown said post-race.

"I just told him not to move before the bend, and things worked out perfectly.

"The Guineas is the plan for him next. I won't change a thing in his training, this horse is getting better and better.

Only tasting defeat once in his career, he is one of the shinning lights in Singapore and very much looking forward to seeing him step up to the mile.

If he can be as effective there, Cliff Brown looks to have another champion on his hands, not long after losing Debt Collector.
