Randwick Kensington

Race 5: Promise Of Success

One to keep an eye on from Wednesday's Randwick Kensington meeting, is John O'Shea's lightly raced five-year-old mare, Promise Of Success. Returning from an eight-week let up, the daughter of Dansili was well found in the market ($2.60) for race five over 1300m. Having not displayed a whole deal of early tactical speed in her seven career starts, the bay mare jumped on terms under the riding of Hugh Bowman, before drifting back from the widest gate to land a spot. She was ridden cold and had the whole field in front her when straightening. Bowman sat cool, calm and collected on his mount, 'statue-esque-like' until passing the 300m. From there he steered the mare to the outside fence, gobbling up the opposition and let down impressively under hands and heels to the line, for what proved a soft victory in the end. While Promise Of Success is yet to be nominated in any upcoming feature races, I have no doubt she will be popping up again for another win this Spring and is one definitely worth following. 

Bendigo

Race 1: Mornington Glory

Another one that caught the eye was a smart colt on debut by the name of Mornington Glory. Trained by Matt Laurie, the son of Shalaa out of Crowned Glory, was sent out a short favourite ($1.50) in the first at Bendigo over 1100m. With Luke Currie aboard, the three-year-old jumped fairly from the wide gate and was sent forward to cross the field, settling outside the lead after the early going. The colt eyeballed the leader for much of the race and looked set for a good tussle to the finish. While Currie had his mount under hands in heels for much of the straight, it was when passing the 200m he asked a bit more from the three-year-old. When shown the persuader, the colt responded ultra-impressively pushing out 3+ lengths to the rest of the field, finding the line with relative ease. Nominated for the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 9, Mornington Glory has halved his quote after Wednesday's run and now stands a $26 chance with tab.com.au. The promising colt can also be found in markets for the Coolmore Stud Stakes (Oct 30 – 1200m) and is currently priced at $13, in from an original $34 when markets first opened with tab.com.au.
