Former GWS ruckman Rory Lobb is happy with his decision to join Fremantle, saying he feels there is more room for him to grow at the Dockers rather than at AFL premiers West Coast.

Lobb will play alongside former Demon Jesse Hogan in a new-look Fremantle forward line.

The duo's arrival means Cam McCarthy could find it hard to squeeze into the side with the Dockers finally boasting a glut of power forwards after years of battling a shortage.

Lobb was keen to return home to Perth this year but the big decision was whether to join Fremantle or West Coast.

The Eagles appear destined for a period of sustained success given the quality of their list.

In contrast, the jury is still out on Fremantle, especially after the departure of star midfielder Lachie Neale.

However, Lobb's desire to play more as a forward convinced him that Fremantle was the best fit.

West Coast already boast power forwards Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling, meaning Lobb would have been forced to play more as a ruckman after the loss of Scott Lycett to free agency.

"I just see myself being more effective as a forward," Lobb said on Wednesday.

"That's where I play my best footy.

"I felt like when I was in the ruck you're wrestling in the stoppages the whole time.

"I sort of lose that bit of running and flying for my marks. I feel as a forward I can do that more."

Fremantle fans were jumping for joy when the club secured the services of star Demon Hogan.

Lobb was also excited and he heard the news in a peculiar manner.

"I was on Fraser Island, so I didn't really have any phone signal," he said.

"I was standing on top of my car trying to get a signal, and on the last day of the trade period I ended up getting a little bit and saw that (Fremantle secured Hogan).

"I'm really excited to get a connection there and play some good footy together."

Lobb, who played 74 games across five seasons with GWS, is looking forward to more family time in Perth.

"There's six siblings, and 10 nieces and nephews," hesaid of his large family.

"There's only one other sibling that's away from Perth, so I thought I'd come back and be with them."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
