Adelaide coach Don Pyke says the Crows have no option but to count the injury cost, then move on rapidly from their AFL loss to Hawthorn.

Adelaide coach Don Pyke says he'll count the injury cost, then move on rapidly from a shock opening-round AFL loss.

Pyke will be without defender Tom Doedee (knee) for the season and veteran Richard Douglas (ankle) for a spell, both hurt in Saturday's 32-point home loss to Hawthorn.

"It's disappointing. But we have got to move on, that's the unfortunate reality," Pyke said.

"I feel for Tom ... he has come off a great season last year.

"As we saw with (Richmond star) Alex Rance, these things happen in footy."

Stalwart Douglas suffered ligament damage high on his right ankle - the same ankle he had trouble with last season.

"It's the same one he had last year so hopefully it's on the minor scale and we can get him up and going pretty quickly," Pyke said.

"But unfortunately he is going to be out for a little while."

Pyke will be forced to recast his line-up when the Crows next fly to Sydney for a Friday night fixture against the Swans.

"The reality for us is we have got six days until Sydney," he said.

"So we can't dwell on this too long.

"We have got to actually take it in context ... and attack round two."
