Adelaide co-captain Taylor Walker says Mason Cox's AFL tribunal case is a waste of time for everyone.

Collingwood's Cox will front the tribunal on Tuesday night to contest a rough conduct charge.

Cox was cited for an off-the-ball collision with Richmond's Dylan Grimes in last Thursday night's MCG fixture.

But Adelaide's Walker says such incidents happen countless times without penalty.

"I think it is a big waste of Collingwood and the AFL's time, especially for Mason Cox," Walker told Triple M radio on Tuesday.

"Honestly, we are playing a contact game.

"I have lost count of the times I have been watching the ball, running back to my position trying to cut my angles, a defender has stopped and bumped me and I have not fallen over.

"It happens all the time and is what Mason Cox has done to the defender and been reported."

AFL match review officer Michael Christian laid the charge against Cox.

"The ball was 30-odd metres away and Mason, by taking steps into the path of Dylan Grimes, intended to commit a reportable offence," Christian said.

"And given the ball was so far away, it was graded as intentional.

"The contact was high ... there was clear contact with Mason's shoulder with Dylan Grimes's head and that is reinforced by the medical report."
