Battling Richmond could be without all of their big four next week after captain Trent Cotchin was injured and a testy Dustin Martin could be in trouble for an off-the-ball incident during their 49-point loss to GWS.

Already missing bookends Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt, Richmond couldn't contain the Giants two Jeremys -- Cameron and Finlayson, who kicked seven and five goals respectively in a 19.11 (125) to 10.16 (76) win at Giants Stadium on Saturday.

Cotchin hurt a hamstring in the second half and Richmond lost Jayden Short with a dislocated elbow early in the first quarter, with coach Damien Hardwick unsure of the severity of both injuries.

Hardwick called for umpires to protect the ball carrier after Martin was effectively tagged by Matt de Boer

Martin could attract the scrutiny of the Match Review Officer after appearing to catch a Giants player with shot to the head.

"Why do you reckon he might give away that free kick?" Hardwick asked.

"Let the bloke play the game. Protect the ball carrier is what I'm saying.

"Don't get me wrong, de Boer did a terrific job, but geez ..."

Hardwick said he approached the emergency umpires at one stage regarding the treatment of Martin, to no avail.

"I was just asking about their responsibility to the ball player. I didn't get a response," he said.

GWS coach Leon Cameron defended de Boer's approach and said his team hadn't deliberately tried to get under Martin's skin.

"I thought Matty played a really good, fair game," Cameron said.

Martin's frustration was visible and at one stage he raised a middle finger.

He also appeared to make a gesture towards Shane Mumford, which some interpreted as a reference to a video in which the Giants ruckman was seen snorting some white powder.

Mumford, who was solid in his first AFL game since 2017, revealed he had been baiting Martin, but said he hadn't seen the gesture.

"Nothing at all, so it didn't have any effect," he said.

"I was abusing him from the other side of the field, I know that."

Cameron kicked 7.5 despite getting a cork to the back of his shoulder

"It affected his nerves in his neck and in his arm, he's tough, he's hard, he's brave," Leon Cameron said.

Finlayson, who has played most of his senior football as a back, comfortably exceeded his four-goal tally from his 17 previous games, booting 5.1

He kicked three straight goals either side of halftime and GWS booted six goals to one in the last quarter.

'I thought our effort was pretty good throughout the night but just their power in the end overwhelmed us." Hardwick said.

Tom Lynch had his best goal return as a Tiger kicking 4.1 while Kane Lambert tallied 34 touches and Hardwick praised debutant Sydney Stack .
