AFL round five preview panel

3 minute read

A preview of the opening match of round five of the AFL between Brisbane and Collingwood at the Gabba.

PREVIEW OF OPENING GAME OF AFL ROUND FIVE (times AEST):

THURSDAY, April 18

Brisbane v Collingwood at Gabba, 7:35pm

Head to head: Lions 17 Magpies 14

Last clash: Round 21, 2018 - Magpies 14.20 (104) bt Lions 11.7 (73) at Docklands

Summary: There is a buzz at the Gabba again and the Lions plan to embrace it in a clash on the Thursday before Easter, against Collingwood, which they hope will become a regular fixture. The Magpies midfield is a celebrated one and the return of Dayne Beams to that group adds the necessary spice in what will be his first appearance in Brisbane since leaving the club. Lions recruit Lachie Neale has been the league's most prolific midfielder though and has the chance to grow his fan base in front of what is tipped to be the Gabba's first AFL sell-out since 2010.

Key: Chris Fagan has asked for better up-field pressure by Brisbane after their back six were exposed by Essendon in their first loss of the season last week. A fast and accurate start at home would also help the Lions get the most out of a big crowd.

Tip: Lions by 15
