GWS midfielder Stephen Coniglio says the importance of star Toby Greene, who will return from a calf injury for the AFL Sydney derby, can't be underplayed

GWS will recall Toby Greene, one of their "best and most important players", for Saturday's local AFL derby against Sydney at the SCG.

The Giants continue to sweat on the availability of injured co-captain Phil Davis, who rolled his ankle during their loss to Fremantle in Canberra.

But Greene, who hasn't played since round one, has recovered from his calf injury and is officially off the club's injury list.

"It's great he's had an extra couple of weeks and got himself cherry ripe," GWS vice-captain Stephen Coniglio said.

"He's missed a lot of footy over the last couple of years ... I can't remember ever seeing anyone work as hard as him at training.

"He's one of top two in terms of best and most important players, so to get him back will give the boys a lift and I know he'll be looking forward to this fixture a lot."

The Swans need no reminding of Greene's potency and how he is capable of dominating despite a lack of match fitness.

The small forward returned from injury in last year's elimination final at the SCG, booting a game-high three goals while helping himself to 27 disposals.

Sydney key defender Dane Rampe heaped praise on Greene and GWS forward Jeremy Cameron.

Rampe regularly gets the job on Cameron, who has kicked a league-high 21 goals in the opening five rounds.

"He's just a really ruthless competitor ... coupled with that, he's got really good agility and speed for his size and strength," Rampe said.

"I really enjoying coming up against him but in saying that, we're not too sure of the match-ups this week because I think Toby Greene comes back. He played pretty well against us last time."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
