Melbourne have condemned the behaviour of a fan who is expected to be charged over an ugly incident following their win over Hawthorn.

Melbourne have condemned an ugly incident of crowd violence after their win over Hawthorn that will result in a fan being charged by Victoria Police.

The incident is believed to have occurred shortly after the Demons' five-point win over the Hawks at the MCG on Saturday.

Video emerged on Channel Nine on Sunday of a man wearing a Melbourne guernsey punching another wearing a Hawthorn jumper, with the victim falling to the ground before onlookers assisted.

A person can be heard shouting "He's disabled ..." during the shocking footage.

Victoria Police said via a statement that a 34-year-old Baxter man has been interviewed and is expected to be charged on summons with assault-related offences.

"The club is appalled by this behaviour and vehemently (condemns) violence of any kind," a club statement read in part.

"It is important to our club and the AFL community that all patrons feel safe. Violence has no place in the community let alone at a sporting event.

"The club is working with all relevant parties involved to gather further information, and to determine the appropriate action required."

Crowd violence has become an increasingly concerning issue for the AFL over the past 12 months.

A fan was knocked out in a sickening clash at the 2019 AFL season-opener between Carlton and Richmond, with other brawls occurring at Geelong's GMHBA Stadium, in a bar at Marvel Stadium and between Collingwood and St Kilda fans at the same venue last season.
