Port Adelaide's co-captain Ollie Wines says he has no problem with copping a verbal spray from coach Ken Hinkley during Friday night's AFL loss to Collingwood.

Port Adelaide co-captain Ollie Wines says he deserved his public roasting from coach Ken Hinkley.

Wines was subjected to a Hinkley verbal spray, caught by television cameras, at quarter-time of Port's AFL loss to Collingwood last Friday night.

Hinkley's barrage directed at Wines and ruckman Scott Lycett came after the Magpies booted seven goals to none in the opening term, laying the foundation of their 39-point win.

"It's footy - you're going to cop a mouthful if you're not doing the right thing," Wines told reporters on Monday.

"And Scott and I in that first quarter weren't doing our thing for the team.

"I daresay you see about one per cent of them (coach sprays), the other 99 per cent of them are hidden."

Wines in the final quarter cut a distraught figure when on the bench as his side slid to defeat.

"I was just a bit frustrated with my game and how I led the boys on the night," he said.

"I wasn't able to impact the team early in the game when the game was on the line.

"I had just turned a handball over that went down to an opposition goal and I was just pretty frustrated.

"Things were tipping towards that, little things going wrong, and it just sort of culminated to that moment."
