Gold Coast midfielder Jordan Murdoch is facing a lengthy stint on the AFL sidelines after scans confirmed ligament damage in his ankle injury.

Experienced Gold Coast midfielder Jordan Murdoch is facing a long stint on the sidelines after damaging ligaments in last Saturday's AFL loss to North Melbourne.

The 27-year-old limped off in the third quarter of the Suns' 27-point loss to the Kangaroos at Metricon Stadium, after being caught underneath a tackle by North youngster Tarryn Thomas.

Scans have revealed Murdoch has ligament damage and the club is giving the injury time to settle before determining a likely return date.

"He's had some ligament damage to his foot, which we're currently offloading," Suns head physio Lindsay Bull said.

"We'll need to see how that responds in this period of offload before we can recommence loading through his foot and ankle."

Vice captain Touk Miller will have to pass a fitness test to be available for Saturday's clash with St Kilda in Townsville.

Miller, playing his first game since round eight due to heel injury, corked his thigh early in the Kangaroos defeat.

While the 23-year-old had responded well, he'll still have to be monitored throughout the week.

"He had that cork really early, and it's quite a significant one, so we'll need to see how he goes throughout this week," Bull said.
