3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2019 AFL Season.

We’ll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won’t always just be who will win.

FREMANTLE v PORT ADELAIDE

Saturday 15 June @ Optus Stadium

On a shocking Saturday line up of matches, two teams vying for lower eight spots square off in Perth.

You have to admire what Fremantle did last outing. They fell behind Collingwood away from home, got well in front, fell behind again and then kicked the winner on full time once more.

Michael Walters couldn’t win another one after the siren could he?

While Ross Lyon’s coaching style is often one which garners a myriad of opinions, the Dockers have seemingly played with more freedom and excitement in 2019.

Their percentage of 109 is not totally borne of a stingy defence but has had some attack about it.

Nat Fyfe isn’t a lone hand this year either. Even with Lachie Neale gone, he’s been helped by Bradley Hill, Brayshaw, Blakely and the halfback runners like Wilson.

It also comforts with marking targets like Hogan and Lobb now up forward. Lobb’s absence now is a big factor for structure.

That comes on top of the problems besetting Alex Pearce down back. When you are a middle of the road team you can’t afford carnage to your team’s spine.

While Fremantle were taking in the culinary delights of Lygon Street last week, Port Adelaide went a little further for their gastronomic enjoyments.

They gave a physically and internally weakened St Kilda a shellacking in China.

Whatever the financial positives the venture may bring to Alberton, it hasn’t hindered their on-field results.

They never got behind and won by over eleven goals. 139 is a score that is rarely achieved these days. Their spread of goal kickers is irrefutable - sign of a team mentality.

As long as all has returned to normal this shapes as a game of fast moving parts.

Port Adelaide seems a good bet here. They’ve already won in Perth this year giving the Eagles a belting and despite the China experience, have had time to recover.

Happy to take them as the value.

Match Selection: Port Adelaide by 15 points
