Coach Leon Cameron wants his suddenly goal-shy GWS side to capitalise more on turnovers as they seek a historic first MCG triumph over Richmond.

GWS coach Leon Cameron has stressed his out-of-sorts AFL side must convert more turnovers into goals as they chase their first MCG win over Richmond on Sunday.

GWS smashed Richmond by 49 points at Giants Stadium back in round three, but have lost all four MCG clashes with the Tigers.

The last was back in 2017 in a preliminary final witnessed by a massive crowd of 94,258, which contained only a small contingent of Giants supporters.

GWS have scored under 75 points in three of their last four games, losing the last two and dropping to fifth on the ladder.

In each of those three losses, they kicked just 1.2 in the first quarter.

Cameron said the Giants' tackle pressure, contested ball and clearance work were all in pretty good nick, but their scoring had fallen away, especially from turnovers.

"We're obviously in a little bit of a form slump, and with that confidence drops and you just don't pull the right rein," Cameron said.

"Last week I think we had 26 forward half turnovers, which I think on average is pretty good, but we scored one point from that.

"Normally you probably score four or five goals from that."

Cameron is well aware of the challenges that lay ahead with the Tigers, who've won two in a row, themselves masters at scoring from opposition turnovers.

"We've got to match the energy that they play at," he said.

'We've had some really good games against Richmond in the past and there's been some really close games, but our big challenge is we've yet to beat Richmond at the MCG.

"That's the outcome (we want), but we've got to make sure our processes are starting from quarter one, because our first quarters have been down a little bit."

Cameron expects 19-year-old debutant Bobby Hill to use his speed to pressure the Tigers' backs.
