Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury has needed surgery on his broken finger, adding to the AFL club's significant injury toll.

Collingwood have paid a high price for their outstanding AFL win over West Coast with captain Scott Pendlebury needing finger surgery.

It is unclear how long the five-time club best and fairest will be out of action but he will miss Saturday's away match against GWS.

The Magpies also lost key defender Darcy Moore out of Friday night's defeat of the premiers, with a hamstring injury.

Pendlebury suffered a broken finger in the second quarter but played out the game and was high among Collingwood's best.

The Herald Sun reports Pendlebury broke the middle finger in his left hand - the same finger that was hurt during the 2017 international rules series.

Pendlebury's fellow Mapgies onballer Taylor Adams returned to action, via the VFL, from a groin injury that has sidelined him since round seven of the AFL season.

The Magpies came from behind on Friday to beat West Coast in Perth after worrying losses to North Melbourne and Hawthorn.

They returned to second on the ladder at the Eagles' expense.
