Canterbury forward Sauaso Sue has been ruled out for the rest of the NRL season after suffering a torn ACL.

Sue is set to be sidelined for nine months after going down in the Bulldogs' win over Newcastle on Friday night.

"The injury occurred in the 26th minute when the prop forward was tackled by three Knights defenders," the club said in a statement.

"The 27-year-old will see a surgeon in the next couple of weeks to repair the torn ACL before starting his rehabilitation."

Sue is in his first year with the Bulldogs after coming over from the Wests Tigers as part of Dean Pay's rebuild of the side.

He played 11 games this year and is on contract with the Bulldogs for 2020.
