West Coast forward Jack Darling will fulfil his wish of being an Eagle for life after signing a five-year contract extension.

Darling had been linked with a potential move to the Western Bulldogs in recent weeks, but the 188-game veteran quickly quashed that talk.

The 27-year-old has hit career-best form this AFL season and his importance is set to grow once fellow spearhead Josh Kennedy retires in the not-too-distant future.

Darling is fifth on West Coast's all-time list of goal kickers with 358 goals.

Only Josh Kennedy (581), Peter Sumich (511), Mark LeCras (441) and Phil Matera (389) have kicked more goals at the Eagles.

Darling will be 32 when his new deal expires and said he was thrilled to be able to play out his career at the club he adores.

"I grew up supporting the Eagles, so to be here for my entire career is something I'll look back on proudly," Darling said.

"I always thought I was going to be a one-club player. I'm just really excited that the club has backed me in like they have my whole career. I'm really excited for the future.

"The challenge for us in 2019 is to play consistently over four quarters, so we've just got to make sure we play a good, consistent four quarters and make sure we qualify for finals as quickly as we can."

Darling has booted 39 goals from 16 games this season.

It puts him on track to eclipse the 53 goals he booted in his second season - in 2012.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
