Fremantle hold hopes of stars Brad Hill and Ed Langdon remaining at the AFL club despite fielding offers to join Victorian rivals.

Fremantle haven't given up hope of keeping star duo Brad Hill and Ed Langdon from the clutches of AFL rivals.

Hill and Langdon are both expected to seek trades to Melbourne clubs.

The pair will discuss their futures with club hierarchy this week, after Fremantle's season ended on Sunday with a loss to Port Adelaide and a 13th-place finish.

Hill, a triple premiership player at Hawthorn, is citing family reasons for wanting to return to Melbourne, where his partner comes from.

The 26-year-old is understood to be fielding a multi-million dollar offer from St Kilda despite being contracted at Fremantle for another two seasons.

And the Dockers' caretaker coach David Hale says a trade isn't a fait accompli.

"He is still contracted for a couple of years so the club will make a decision that is in their best interest," Hale said after Sunday's 43-point loss to Port.

"Obviously there's guys that have moved before but I'm sure the club going forward will make that decision.

"Most of the time they have tried to accommodate the player as much as they can.

"But Brad has always been a spark around the group. Even at my time at Hawthorn, he was always energetic, bubbly, got the group up.

"So hopefully we can retain him but obviously that will play out in due course."

Hale said Langdon, a 23-year-old whose older brother Tom plays at Collingwood, was in a similar position.

"He is the same, obviously a Melbourne boy but he enjoys Perth a lot," Hale said of Langdon.

"He has got a really good bond with a lot of the players and that (decision) will get down to those above me."
