Ken Hinkley says he's safe in his job as coach of AFL club Port Adelaide despite the Power failing to reach the finals for the second year in a row.

Ken Hinkley says he's been assured of continuing as Port Adelaide AFL coach.

His tenure has come under scrutiny as the Power miss the finals for consecutive seasons.

But Hinkley, who is contracted until the end of 2020, says the speculation has been purely from outside the club.

"I have got their support," Hinkley said of club hierarchy.

"I have got nothing to worry about as far as that goes.

"From the reporting that goes on sometimes, you do get some self doubt. I'm human. I feel that. And I don't like it very often.

"But when you get your players and your key personnel of your football club supporting you and wrapping their arms around you ... you just know you're on the right path and you're the right person to help on that path."

Hinkley said, this season, he had fulfilled an agreed charter of regenerating Port's playing list.

"But what happens in this game, the hard part of the game, is the outside stuff that starts to build and it gets a bit of momentum and creates some uncertainty," he said.

"We know what the game can be like ... we know how tough it can be to survive.

"But we also know how bloody tough it is to stick and I think this footy club made some really brave decisions and I'm sure they will get the reward for it.

"We made commitment to make some change and we have followed through."
