Alarm bells are ringing at West Coast, but it has nothing to do with concerns over Essendon's lethal backline.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson was in the middle of a press conference on Monday when an alarm went off at the club's training base in Lathlain.

Simpson was midway through answering a question about Essendon's speedy defence when the alarm interrupted him.

"That was a lie was it?" Simpson quipped in reference to the beeping noise that followed his answer about Essendon's defence.

So what was the emergency? A smoking toastie machine in the building's cafe.

The alarm lasted less than 80 seconds before being de-activated, allowing Simpson to resume his press conference.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
