FIVE BIG STORIES FROM THE 2019 AFL TRADE PERIOD
* Don't go, Joe: Essendon were adamant they wouldn't let Joe Daniher go to Sydney cheaply and they didn't blink as the trade period deadline passed. The Bombers now have some fences to mend with their star forward, who was equally adamant that he wanted to leave.
* St Kilda shake things up: The Saints were the movers and shakers of the trade window. New coach Brett Ratten will have Bradley Hill (Fremantle), Paddy Ryder Port Adelaide), Dougal Howard (Port Adelaide), Dan Butler (Richmond) and Zak Jones (Sydney) at his disposal, but Josh Bruce (Western Bulldogs), Jack Steven (Geelong) and Blake Acres (Fremantle) departed.
* Adelaide complete fire sale: The Crows shipped off six veterans as they look to embark on a new era under Matthew Nicks. Eddie Betts (Carlton), Alex Keath (Western Bulldogs), Josh Jenkins (Geelong), Hugh Greenwood (Gold Coast), Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Brisbane) and Sam Jacobs (GWS) are all now ex-Adelaide players.
* Hawks pull off another steal: Hawthorn have now landed two former No.1 draft picks from GWS after Jonathon Patton joined Tom Scully at the club. The Hawks gave up a future fourth-rounder for each - or the trade equivalent of a bag of chips and a can of soft drink.
* Tim Kelly an Eagle at last: A year after West Coast and Geelong failed to strike a deal for Kelly, the clubs moved quickly. The Cats got picks 14, 24 and 37 in this year's draft and the Eagles' first-round pick in the 2020 draft in return for Kelly.
