St Kilda have delisted Jack Newnes, allowing the wingman to further his AFL career with Carlton.

The 26-year-old knocked back a new two-year offer from the Saints, saying he wanted to explore his options as a free agent.

Newnes has been heavily linked to the Blues and is expected to find a new home there when the delisted free agency period opens on November 1.

St Kilda list manager James Gallagher said the club respected Newnes' decision to seek a fresh start after debuting in 2012 and playing 155 games.

"We did present Jack a with a contract offer and have been in regular discussion with him and his manager over the past month," Gallagher said in a statement on Friday.

"In the end, Jack has decided the time is right for a fresh start and we have agreed to delist him.

"This will allow him the opportunity to join another club as a de-listed free agent."

A regular selection over the past eight years, the durable Newnes equalled a club record this season with his 123rd game in succession before he was dropped after round 14.
