Brisbane Lions AFLW player Jessica Wuetschner is recovering after she was struck by lightning.

Brisbane Lions AFLW forward Jessica Wuetschner has avoided serious injury after she was struck by lightning while at work as a stevedore.

Outside her AFLW commitments, Wuetschner is employed at the Port of Brisbane and in the early hours of Sunday, she was working on a ship in a crib held up by a crane when lightning struck a pole she was holding.

The Lions said Wuetschner was taken to hospital and discharged on Sunday morning, having avoided physical injuries.

"Physically I am A-OK, but I'm still processing things mentally," Wuetschner said.

"I am feeling a bit flat physically so will be resting my body.

"I was very lucky and I'm feeling very fortunate.

"The doctors have given me the all clear to return to training, so I'm looking forward to getting back to footy, getting back to normal.

"Thank you to everyone for their care and concern."

Wuetschner has been recovering at home and was at Brisbane training on Tuesday night.

"We are just so thankful that she is alright," Lions AFLW chief executive Breeanna Brock said.

"A moment like this put things into perspective, that's for sure.

"We'll continue to work with Jess and our team here at the club to make sure she has everything she needs to get back to normal."

A crafty forward, Wuetschner has kicked 26 goals in 23 games across three seasons at Brisbane and was an All-Australian in 2018.
