AFL coach Damien Hardwick was among those at Richmond who reached out to AFLW captain Katie Brennan after her difficult start to the season.

Richmond have thrown their arms around AFLW captain Katie Brennan amid her difficult start to their campaign.

The former Western Bulldogs skipper joined the Tigers in the off-season but had an indifferent first two games.

She was also criticised last week for testing out the injured shoulder of Gold Coast's Jamie Stanton.

Coach Tom Hunter revealed AFL mentor Damien Hardwick and general manager of football performance Tim Livingstone were among those who reached out to Brennan.

"It certainly was a difficult week but we wrap our arms around Katie and that's just internally in terms of the girls and the players, the staff but also the wider footy club," Hunter said.

"'Dimma' touched base with her, 'Livo' touches base with her - we really want to make sure she feels really well supported and I thought she played her role today.

"(She had) a little bit more opportunity to go forward and impact there and I thought we got the balance right for her as a midfielder/forward."

Hunter said Hardwick had called Brennan during the week.

"Katie's always in and around the club so she's got good relationships with people in the men's department and us as well," Hunter said.

"It's a footy department that does both men's and women's. So they touched base and she's in the club so we get around her there and it's one unit, one football department."

Brennan booted 1.2 and had 14 touches rotating between midfield and the forward line and was among the Tigers' better players against North Melbourne.

Kangaroos coach Scott Gowans said he expected Brennan to return to her best.

"I hope she remembers she is a superstar and it will turn for her at some stage," he said.
