2020 AFL Round 18 PREVIEW – FREMANTLE V WESTERN BULLDOGS

3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of many games in the 2020 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

FREMANTLE V WESTERN BULLDOGS

Sunday 20 September @ Cazaly's Stadium

The second last game of the regular season pits two really interesting teams together.

In Fremantle we have a young team rising and rising fast off the back of strong drafting. In the Dogs we have one who been up and down through one big high and a few recent lows.

The Bulldogs should know their fate by the time this game is played as to whether they are in any danger of being caught by Melbourne or GWS. That could be an important factor as to how the match will be played.

Docker fans will be stoked as to how they have finished off. They have played the kids and played a differing style to the way they used to be coached.

Longmuir hasn't relied on Nat Fyfe to do all the dirty work. Admittedly he was hamstrung early in the season but when 2021 comes around the benefit of that will be shown up.

Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong will be long term stalwarts. It has allowed not just Fyfe but Mundy and Hill plus a solid defence to meld around them.

It won't take long for them to be not just challenging for finals but even higher honours when other teams head south.

Now the Dogs met an inept Hawthorn who has put the cue in the rack for the season. Once they decided they are for a rebirth, they have been poor all around. Scoring has been non-existent and they have begun to leak points too.

Young Will Day has impressed this season but the drop off from some big names has been incredible. Naturally he had a definitive excuse but Tom Mitchell has not been the same influencer as his Brownlow year.

Those horrible injuries can curtail players for a while and make them lose what speed they have. Another off-season will help him recover more.

But the similarity between all their inside mids was shown up by the Bulldogs. Their speed of handball was too great. That game plan is a point of difference to many of the other finalists.

Naughton needs to be a real focal point but they want to generate scoring by the midfield rather than through the midfield.

Fremantle's defence will be tough for the Dogs bigs to be manhandling them.

It is a tricky game as only one team has it all to play for but the others might actually be going slightly better. Siding with the Bulldogs but only just. There might be a few points scored here.

Match Selection: Western Bulldogs by 5 points

Suggested Bets: Total Points Over 114.5 @ $1.90
