Key questions ahead of WBBL season start

3 minute read

The entire WBBL season will be staged in a Sydney hub, where every player and official involved will stay at hotels in Olympic Park.

KEY DETAILS OF THE SIXTH WBBL SEASON:-

*Where and when?

The tournament starts on Sunday and runs until November 29. Every single game will be played in Sydney, where matches will be staged at North Sydney Oval, Hurstville Oval, Drummoyne Oval, Showgrounds Stadium and Blacktown Oval.

*Why is every game in Sydney?

Cricket Australia initially released a schedule featuring games spread around the country, but it became clear that border closures would not make that practical. The governing body has booked out hotels at Olympic Park, where every player and official (even those who live in Sydney) will stay during coming weeks.

*Are foreign stars involved?

Yes. Sophie Devine, Heather Knight, Stafanie Taylor and Dane van Niekerk - all captains in international cricket - headline the list of foreign talent. Every international recruit has spent a fortnight in hotel quarantine. There have been no exemptions permitting them to leave the room to train.

*Which players have changed clubs this season?

Plenty. Beth Mooney, the player of the tournament during Australia's Twenty20 World Cup triumph earlier this year, has left reigning champions Brisbane Heat to join Perth Scorchers. The Scorchers have also signed reigning WBBL player of the year and former Adelaide Striker Devine. National captain Meg Lanning is back at Melbourne Stars, who also signed England's Natalie Sciver and Katherine Brunt.

*Who are the favourites?

Most bookmakers have either Perth Scorchers or Sydney Sixers as title favourites.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
