Former North Melbourne defender Daniel Pratt has been appointed coach of West Coast's AFLW side.

Pratt, who played three games for Brisbane and 116 for North Melbourne during his eight-year AFL career, has been an assistant under West Coast coach Adam Simpson since 2014.

The 37-year-old Pratt replaces the Eagles' inaugural AFLW coach Luke Dwyer, who stepped down after just one season.

West Coast won just one game last season to finish bottom of their conference with a percentage of 32.1.

During his time under Simpson, Pratt served as a development coach, a defence coach, and a stoppages coach at the Eagles.

Pratt will be supported by former Dockers AFLW coach Michelle Cowan and Jo Beechey (forward line coaches), Brady Grey and Ryan Turnbull (midfield coaches) and Andrew Di Loreto (back line coach).

"I've been an assistant for a long time now and this is a great opportunity, particularly on the back of the enthusiasm and effort the girls brought last year," Pratt said.

"We have several players with plenty of experience but most of the girls are only six games into their AFLW career, so for me it's about finding the next part of our game around finishing and kicking a winning score."
