Nathan Buckley claims speculation around star Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar's murky AFL future with the Magpies is "disrespectful".

The Collingwood coach hit out a report claiming he told Treloar via a phone call that he was no longer wanted by senior players at the club.

Buckley said the report on SEN on Monday "was news to me".

"The constant rumour and innuendo is disrespectful to Adam, the club and our supporters," he posted on Twitter.

"We'll continue to communicate directly and sensitively with 'Adz' and his management.

"FYI (for your information), our leaders don't sit on list management, it's not their job."

It comes after weeks of talk that Collingwood are trying to move the highly paid 27-year-old on to free up a space in the Magpies' bulging salary cap.

The club has stayed silent on the matter until now.

Treloar is one of a number of Magpies players faced with an uncertain future, including wingman Tom Phillips and forward Jaidyn Stephenson.

The former Greater Western Sydney player's partner Kim Ravaillion has signed a Super Netball club to play with the Queensland Firebirds next year and will be moving north.

It was thought Treloar could follow Ravaillion and sign with either of the Queensland AFL clubs, but the Brisbane Lions have ruled out an approach for him and the Gold Coast Suns' interest has cooled.

Treloar has been intent on wanting to stay at Collingwood, where he is contracted at until the end of the 2025 season.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
