GWS officially matched the Cats' offer to the restricted free agent as expected on Monday, sending the two clubs to the trade table.
The highest pick the Giants could have received via free agency compensation was a first-round pick - currently pick 11.
The Cats have three first-round picks - currently 13, 15 and 20 - with the Giants expected to demand a combination of picks and a player in return for Cameron.
The 27-year-old leads a collection of high-profile forwards on the move this trade period - after Joe Daniher previously joined Brisbane via free agency.
Fremantle have already agreed to send former Rising Star winner Jesse Hogan to GWS, while Ben Brown has requested a trade from North Melbourne to Melbourne.
Brown's move is likely to see contracted Melbourne tall Tom McDonald depart the Demons.
Essendon will again be heavily involved, with the Bombers set to deal with Carlton over wantaway half-back Adam Saad and Port Adelaide for goalkicker Orazio Fantasia, while they are committed to securing GWS young gun Jye Caldwell.
Adelaide are yet to make a call on whether they will match St Kilda's bid for restricted free agent Brad Crouch.
The Crows have until 5pm Wednesday to decide whether to allow Crouch to walk for a compensation pick - expected to be at the start of the second round (currently pick 23) - or match the Saints' offer and either force a trade or keep the midfielder.
Meanwhile it still remains unclear whether Adam Treloar's future lies at Collingwood.
There has been ongoing speculation the Magpies are keen to move on the midfielder, who is contracted until the end of 2025 and wants to stay at Collingwood.
The trade period kicks off at 9am AEDT on Wednesday and will run until 7.30pm on November 12.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the trade period will be conducted virtually, with the AFL Review Centre (ARC) being used as the main Hub.
Clubs will negotiate in virtual meetings and trades will be submitted via an online system.
